Sanders earns color repair certification, completes course

David Sanders of Personal Touch Carpet Care recently earned certification in color repair in carpet and completed a specialized rug cleaning course.

“The color repair certification allows me to take care of color loss in carpet and correct it,” he said after undergoing an intense, two-day training and examinations on such topics of as the origin of light and color, fiber identification, dyeing methods, color theory and causes for color loss.

“A lot of times, people don’t understand what happened to cause the color loss and whether it is a type of loss that can be repaired,” he said. “This training makes me able to put the color back into the carpet – it also helped me to understand carpet fibers and dyes. There are some spots that won’t come out, but we can do a test to see what caused it and whether it can be corrected.”

For example, most stains caused by pets can be removed from carpets, and the color can be restored.

Sanders also noted that attempts at color repair in carpets by persons not certified will void carpet warranties.

Ruth Travis, the administrator of RL Seminars Inc., taught the course on rug cleaning. The school is a specialized training organization recognized internationally in the field of fabric care.

The intense, two-day course covered fiber and carpet manufacture, dyeing, cleaning chemistry specialized spotting, methods and procedures of cleaning. Special emphasis was placed on resolving consumer complaints and handling specialized problems relating to the latest fiber, fabric and rug cleaning technology.

Emphasis was placed on new procedures for cleaning and preserving high-value Oriental and specialty rugs.
