Alesia and David Sanders, owners of Personal Touch based here in Fayetteville, celebrate the company’s 25th year. The company, launched in 1986, has gained numerous awards and recognition for going out of its way to ensure fair and honorable business practices.

The firm became the first small business to win the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award in both Tennessee and Alabama, going on to become one the top five of 100 businesses nominated for national recognition by the Better Business Bureau.

"Ever since 1986 the mission of our company has remained the same, to provide our clients with the most outstanding cleaning experience possible," said David Sanders, who operates Personal Touch with his wife, Alesia, recipient of the Heartbeat Award from the International Society of Cleaning Technicians. "Our accomplishments and the respect we’ve earned in the business over these past 25 years are a testament to our professional work ethic and trustworthiness."

"Too, we appreciate the faith our customers place in us," he continued. "It’s not all about growth or how big you are – we haven’t forgotten how to treat people and are always pleased when customers speak so highly of us."

David moved from Winchester to Fayetteville in 1986 when he went to work for another professional in the cleaning and refurbishment business.

"I remember talking with Bruce Wright, who owned a local cleaning company for 30 years, and he was very open and straightforward with me," David recalls. "He taught me how important education is and stressed the significance of being a professional and doing the job right."

"Scott Warrington, who I also worked with, encouraged me to learn the science behind what we do, which was something that always intrigued me. That’s how I began specializing in certain aspects of our work."

To reach his goals, David began attending schools across the United States, gaining education and training that would lead him to hold certifications in 10 areas of cleaning, including two masters, one in cleaning and another in restorative cleaning.

Along the way, 21 years ago, David and Alesia married. At the time, David was working at Walmart, cleaning and stripping floors, one of three jobs he held at the time while operating his small business. From Columbia, Alesia would work her day job and then assist him at night. Finally, she gave up her job to join him in the business full-time.

"I really enjoy working with her," he said. "We complement each other very well, and now our daughter, Jamiah, is learning the trade. She’s 14 and already wants to take over the business one day … We are trying to lay the foundation for her to do that, teaching her how to do estimates, why certain chemicals work, and about marketing and promotion. She’s going to be the next generation, using technology, too, as part of the trade."

Specializing predominately in carpet cleaning and restoration services, Personal Touch also provides such services as hardwood floor care, upholstery cleaning, ceramic tile and grout cleaning, air duct cleaning, water damage and fire damage restoration, odor control, construction cleanup, oriental and area rug cleaning, stain removal, spot dye repair, Scotchguard and Dupont carpet protector applications, and electrostatic air filters.

"We’ve been very fortunate to experience a great deal of success and expand, while still maintaining the characteristics of a small business," said Alesia, referring to Personal Touch’s growth from Tennessee into Alabama where they work in Huntsville and Madison County with home developers such as Olive Homes and other entities such as the Space and Rocket Center. Other unique customers include Earth, Wind and Fire’s tour bus and an array of private and commercial airplanes.

But Personal Touch’s founders are most appreciative of their customers here in their home town. "We have a lot of good customers in Fayetteville, and we want to thank them – their trust means a lot to us," said Alesia, and David added, "We’ve got the best customers in the world, and they mean a lot to us. People like Carol Foster, who has been very encouraging."

The Sanders have also launched a consumer awareness website to help customers find a reputable contractor. That web address is callpersonaltouch.com.

The Sanders family has donated cleaning and supplies to the South Lincoln School. Personal Touch Carpet Care has been in business since 1986. David Sanders, President of Personal Touch Carpet Care says, ”We have made it our custom to donate at least once a year to schools, organizations, or individuals living in Fayetteville and the surrounding areas.”

Mr. Greg Holder, the principal of South Lincoln Elementary School expressed his appreciation in an acknowledgment letter which says,” The Faculty, Students and Staff at South Lincoln Elementary School would like to Thank You for cleaning our carpet in our school office. It is really nice for us to have a clean building to come back too. The value of your donation will go to supplies that otherwise we would not have.”

We really enjoy giving to our community. Recently, we gave free advice on live radio (WYTM and WEKR) on cleaning, how to choose a carpet cleaning professional, as well as what to do in an emergency like water damage and fire damage. Sanders holds two Masters one in cleaning and another in restorative cleaning.

PERSONAL TOUCH SPOT REMOVAL CHART

No one likes it when there is a spill on the floor, but with the help of Personal Touch Carpet Care and our Home pro spotter, it can be cleaned before becoming a permanent part of the carpet. The information listed below will prepare you to properly deal with spills and keep your carpet clean for years to come.

SPOT REMOVAL STEPS

Act Quickly! Most carpet available today has been treated with a stain-resist treatment, so many spills can be removed easily if immediate action is taken.  The longer the delay, the higher the probability of a spill becoming a permanent stain.  Remember, staining is influenced by many factors, and no carpet in completely stain proof.

(Important! Never use products over the counter. Only use products that are approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute.)

Example: Personal Touch Carpet Care Home Pro Spotter, Perky and Avenge these products are used by professional carpet cleaners from all over the world, so we recommend you use what the pros use.

If you are interested in any of the above products just contact us.

1. Blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth, or white (no printing) paper towels.
2. Do not scrub the area!  Scrubbing can cause pile distortion in affected area.  Continue to use a dry cloth or paper towels until the area is completely dry.  For semi-solids, gently scrape up with a rounded spoon.  Solids should be broken up and vacuumed until completely removed.
3. To remove tar, copy toner, grease, cosmetics, blood and more, use the above spot removal products.  Pretest any spot removal agent in an inconspicuous area to make certain the solution will not damage the fiber or the dye.  After applying several drops to the tested area, hold a white cloth on the wet area for 10 seconds. Examine the carpet and cloth for color transfer, color change, or damage to the carpet. If a change occurs another cleaning solution should be selected. Remember our products are used by the best in the business, so most likely you should not have a problem.
4. Apply a small amount of the selected cleaning solution to a white cloth, allow to sit for about 10 minutes and work in carpet gently.
5. Work form the edges of the spill to the center to prevent the spill from spreading.  Do not scrub! Blot Blot Blot, absorb as much as possible, and repeat if necessary.
6. Continue using the cleaning solution as long as there is a transfer of the spill or spot in the cloth.  Only a small amount of product is needed if you need more add a little more.     Be patient! Complete removal of the spill may require repeating the same step several times.
7. Rinse the affected area thoroughly with cold water. After the spill has been completely removed.  Blot with folded white towel, and then apply presser by standing on the towel.  For cleaning larger spills, repeat with folded towel then apply a one-half inch layer of white paper towels to the affected area, and weigh down with a flat heavy object over night.
8. For Pet Stains; only use white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, mix 4 part water and 1part vinegar.   Rinse as advised above. We will recommend a better product in the future. Consult the home page and click products.

The recipients were nominated by consumers through a survey, after which an independent firm 20/20 Research complied and tabulated the results. 20/20 Research incorporated is based out of Nashville, TN and also has offices in Charlotte, NC and Miami, FL. Before contacting Personal Touch Carpet Care, an extensive background search on the company was conducted as part of the selection process. David Sanders of Personal Touch Carpet Care recently completed a hardwood floor school designed to provide professionals with comprehensive, hands on for sanding and finishing of many different kinds of flooring products. Students of the wood care school were taught how to properly sand custom floors as well as select finishing techniques that yield quality results.

Students learned the following techniques: repair and recoating existing floors, replacement, hand scraping, and removing finish imperfections.

The wood floor sanding and finishing school was sponsored by the National Wood Floor Association. The NWFA is a non-profit trade association representing all segments of the hardwood flooring industry, from manufacturers, to distributors, retailers, installers, to hardwood floor maintenance professionals.

Sanders has now added hardwood floor care to his list of expertise in valuable services which include: carpet cleaning, oriental and area rug cleaning, upholstery cleaning, odor control, carpet repair and installation, water damage restoration, fire damage restoration, ceramic tile and grout, cleaning, air duct cleaning, carpet color repair.

During his 20 years of business Sanders’ firm has earned Masters in both cleaning and restoration.

Dear Mr. Sanders:

It was my great pleasure to be back in Huntsville today, especially since it was to help recognize Alabama businesses that take seriously their responsibility to conduct their business affairs in an ethical manner. As I said today, I am all too familiar with those who are not good caretakers of their profession’s reputation. When twenty-four hour a day news cycles seem to run on bad news and when our people seem preoccupied with the mistakes of others, it is good to see those who are honorable and decent get the recognition they deserve.

I am always pleased to have the opportunity to recognize excellence in our State wherever it may be found. I was particularly glad to get to draw attention to the excellence that can be found in the business community of North Alabama—excellence in the area of marketplace ethics. You are to be commended for your commitment to the honest business practices. It is a tribute to you that someone thought well enough of you, your business, and your employees to nominate you for this award.
